What is collaboration?
Collaboration is an act of working jointly. Here, collaboration would be between e-nalanda and the content authors (content partners) who wish to share their knowledge with the global masses.
Why should I collaborate?
Collaboration accelerates the growth of the knowledge eco-system. This essentially means that if you are gaining knowledge from others, it may be now your turn to share the same. What more, you get paid in this process of sharing knowledge with each other.
Who is a content partner?
Anyone who wishes to share his or her knowledge and has legal access to any content is considered as a content partner. Additionally, anyone who can produce contents on their own or through e-nalanda is treated as a content partner.
How do I collaborate?
To collaborate, you first need to register yourself as a content partner with e-nalanda. You can then create videos as per our guidelines (we mean strictly educational and knowledge sharing) and upload the same on our website. In case you are not in a position to create your own videos, you can get it produced and uploaded by e-nalanda.
Is there any verification process while registering as a content partner?
If you are a paid content partner, all we need is the taxation information from your side. For this, you need to submit your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and PAN card image during the registration process. For non-paid content partners, there is no verification process.

Do I get paid if I upload or share my videos?
That is entirely your choice. If you wish to make your videos freely available, you can do so. However, if you think that your knowledge is too valuable to be shared for free, you may fix a price for your video.
Can I produce my own videos?
Yes, you can produce your own videos as per our guidelines (we mean strictly educational and knowledge sharing) and share it with the rest of the world through e-nalanda. Check our
video production guidelines.
Will e-nalanda help in producing my videos?
Once we have verified the script and the copyrights, we will help you to produce your videos. However, the following criteria must be met before we start with the production:
- You should possess some acceptable credentials in the subject you are going to present.
- You should be willing to come to our studios.
- You should clear the audition test.
- You should sign the agreement.
Do I have to pay e-nalanda to get my videos produced?
No. If your script is selected, e-nalanda will produce and upload your videos for free.
How do I submit the videos that I have produced?
You can directly upload it to our server or alternatively courier it to us in a CD/DVD format. Please refer to our
video production guidelines.

What are the mandatory criteria for uploading a video?
Following are the mandatory criteria for uploading a video:
- The video must be prepared as per our guidelines.
- A brief description about the video needs to be submitted.
- Few samples of the video needs to be submitted for free viewing by the target audience.
What is a topic?
A topic is a collection of videos that cover a specific subject. A topic may have one or more videos.
How many videos can be there in a topic?
We expect a minimum of one video for a given topic. However, statistics at our end makes us believe that on an average there could be around 10 to 14 videos, each with duration of one hour.
Is there any restriction on the size and duration of the videos?
There is no restriction on the size or the duration of the videos. However, for practical reasons, we recommend a video with an average duration of one hour.
How many videos can be there in a topic?
We expect a minimum of one video for a given topic. However, statistics at our end makes us believe that on an average there could be around 10 to 14 videos, each with duration of one hour.
What is a sample video?
Sample video is a trailer video which explains your topic in brief. Duration for this video can be around 10 -15 mins.
Is there any difference in the format for sample videos?

What is the difference between a content partner and a general user?
A content partner is a registered member with e-nalanda and has the rights to upload videos, which he or she legally owns. Also, each time a video is rented or bought, e-nalanda shares the revenue with the content partner.
A general user is also a registered member with e-nalanda. However, general users do not have the rights to upload videos. They can only view the videos after renting or purchasing them.

Do I have to own the copyright of the content before I submit it to e-nalanda?
It is absolutely necessary for you to own the copyright, or obtain a written permission from the owner of the copyright before you submit your content to e-nalanda.
Who holds the copyright of the contents that are uploaded?
The videos can be produced and uploaded either by the content owners or by e-nalanda. Hence, if you have produced and uploaded the videos, then you will be holding the copyright. On the other hand, if e-nalanda produces and uploads the videos based on your script, the copyright will be owned by e-nalanda. e-nalanda does not claim the copyrights on contents provided by others, unless explicitly mentioned.
Who holds the copyright if the videos are produced by e-nalanda?
Whenever any video is produced by e-nalanda, the copyright is owned by e-nalanda.
Does e-nalanda share the revenue if it holds the copyright for my content?
Yes, e-nalanda shares the revenue with the content authors even if it holds the copyright.

How do you secure the contents?
It is our paramount responsibility to protect the rights of our content authors without compromising the convenience of our target audience. To ensure this, we have implemented various security measures to protect our content. We issue digital certificates/rights for each video. This certificate/right needs to be obtained by the user over the Internet before they can start playing the contents.
What is Digital Rights Management?
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a technology that enables secure management of digital media. This technology issues licenses to your computer for each piece of protected content to which you are authorized, and thus, protects the content from unauthorized distribution and viewing. How does the security measures implemented to protect the content work?
When a video content is played for the first time, Windows Media Player (version 9 or above) determines the validity of this content and obtains a license over the Internet, from our server. This is an automatic process when you play any content for the very first time. Once you obtain this license, you can play the video content with out being connected to the Internet. The license will be valid for a specific period if the content is rented and will be valid for a lifetime if the content is bought. Also, our license does not permit you to watch the rented or purchased content on more than four computers.
Why is content security required in the first place?
Our aim is to secure the rights of our content owners, which in turn will benefit our customers by bringing down the over all cost of the contents. A secure system will certainly encourage many content owners to share their valuable contents with our audience, which is the ultimate aim of e-nalanda.
Can contents be copied or transferred to any other media from a PC?
The contents can be copied to a USB stick, CD-ROM, hard disk, etc. and can be transferred to another PC, mobile or other similar devices. But it can be played only on PC where it is downloaded and copied contents won't play on that device.

Do I need to furnish my taxation details if I am a paid content partner?
We pay taxes and hence would like our paid content partners to do the same. To remain compliant with the tax laws, we request you to furnish the tax details specific to your country in order to register as a paid partner with us.
How should I furnish my tax details?
When you register yourself as a paid content partner, you will need to enter your tax details. (PAN and PAN card image). Please note that e-nalanda will hold back all your payments until we receive and verify your tax information.

What type of contents are allowed on e-nalanda?
Any video-based content that is aimed towards imparting knowledge is eligible to be uploaded on the e-nalanda website.
What types of contents are not allowed on e-nalanda?
To start with, contents that do not impart any knowledge are not eligible to be uploaded. At a more granular level, the following types of contents are not allowed:
- Contents that are sexually explicit in nature
- Contents that affect the sentiments / promote hatred towards individuals / groups / regions / nations in any part of the world
- Contents that compromise with confidential information of an individual / organization / nation
Do I have to adhere to any standards if I develop my own contents?
Yes, you have to adhere to certain guidelines before you produce your own contents. Please refer to our
video production guidelines.

What should be the format for upload?
Windows Media Video (WMV) format is mandatory for an upload. For more information, please refer to our
video production guidelines.
If I upload my contents for free viewing, how is it beneficial for me?
Uploading contents for free viewing has its own advantages. The most important advantage being higher visibility among the target audience. The intangible benefits of uploading content for free could be very attractive.
When can I get to see my videos live on e-nalanda after submission of the videos?
If the videos are produced by e-nalanda, it takes a minimum of three weeks for it to go live after the production.
In case you are directly uploading the videos on our site, it will first go in for a verification process. Once verified, it will be packaged and then uploaded. This process also takes around 2-3 weeks. However, if the content fails the verification process, it will not be processed further and the same will be intimated to you.
Will my video be accepted if there is already a video on that particular topic?
Yes, multiple videos on any topic are allowed on e-nalanda. e-nalanda has the feature for general user to browse topics by content authors.

Do we need to follow any guidelines while producing videos?
Yes, you need to follow certain guidelines while producing videos. The guidelines are as follows:
- The videos should be strictly educational in nature and the concepts must be explained in a clear and simple manner.
- The videos can be of any size and duration. However, for practical reasons, we recommend a video with an average duration of one hour.
- The language for communication in the videos should be English.
- A sample of the topic or video must be produced for free viewing by the target audience.

What is the difference between buying and renting content?
These are the two options to acquire any video content from e-nalanda. The difference between each option is as follows:
- Contents can be owned for a lifetime
- Contents do not have any expiry period
- Buy contents can be downloaded on 4 PC's
- Contents can be rented for a specific period of time
- Contents will expire after this rental period
- Contents can't be played or viewed once expired
- Rent contents can be downloaded on 2 PC's
How do I make money from my videos?
Whenever your videos are bought or rented, a part of the revenue will come to you.
Which part of the revenue comes to me?
That depends on the following:
- Quality of content: This includes quality of the presentation, mastery in the subject, and effectiveness of the content in meeting the objectives of the learner.
- Pricing of content: Content that are not vey highly priced are likely to be downloaded more number of times.
- Popularity of content: Popularity is measured based on the number of downloads and the comments and ratings received.
Do I have the rights to decide the pricing of my content?
Yes, you have the rights to decide the pricing of your content. However, once you fix the price of a specific content, you can change it only after a period of three months. Also, in case you need any help on deciding the price of a content, e-nalanda can help you do so.
Do I get any suggestion for pricing my contents?
Yes, you certainly do. We will suggest a price for your content based on our understanding of the target audience. If this is acceptable to you, we will upload your content.
Why cannot I change the pricing of my content whenever I want?
Once the pricing is fixed, a change will be allowed only after a period of three months. This is because frequent changes in the pricing will confuse our customers.
How is transparency maintained while making payments?
As a partner, you will get a login ID using which you can view certain statistics including the total number of times your content was rented, bought, etc.
When do I get paid?
We will clear your payments through a Cheque or through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) at the end of each month. However, this payment will be cleared only if your account balance reaches US$100 (Rs 4000) or unless otherwise agreed to in writing (including electronic mail). If your account balance is less than US$100 at the end of the month, we will roll your earnings over to the following month, or until the payment threshold is reached. The payments can also be held back under certain unavoidable circumstances.

Content Partners - Content Rating

Do contents get removed and for what reasons?
Yes, they do get removed from the website for the following reasons:
- Not appreciated by the target audience
- Any copyright violation that comes to our notice
- If mandated by the law of the land
- Non-performance of the content
- For reasons not listed above but something that requires this action
How do you judge non-performance of contents?
Non-performing contents are the ones that are not frequently viewed, rented, or bought by the target audience.

What is a topic?
A topic is a collection of videos that cover a specific subject. A topic may have one or more videos.
Can I purchase a specific video from a topic?
You have to purchase the entire topic. At present, there is no provision to purchase a specific video from a topic.
What is the difference between buying and renting content?

- You can download buy contents on four computers.

Can a topic contain partly paid and partly free videos?
No, currently we do not have such a feature. However in the near future, we plan to introduce partly paid and partly free videos within a topic.

Yes, they do get removed. Hence, if you have rented or bought any content and have still not downloaded it on to a maximum of four PC's, you will be intimated by a mail before the content is removed.

| Accounts and Payment |
Do I get a credit or refund for unconsumed topics?
We do not offer a credit or refund for topics that you have rented or subscribed for a specific period and not watched. Our policy does not rollover the unconsumed topics and packages to future periods.
How can I view my purchase history?
You can view your purchase history by logging in to your account.
What can I do if my credit card is declined?
We use a third party credit card verification process to authorize all credit card transactions. If a credit card is declined, we are not in a position to verify the reason for the same and hence will not be able to assist you further.
How much will I be charged in my local currency while using a credit card?
We do not have a mechanism for currency conversion. You can determine this for yourself using one of the many free currency conversion tools available on the Internet.
What are the acceptable modes of payment?
We accept payments made via our website with cards displaying the following logos: Visa, Mastercard. Currently, we do not accept payments via PayPal, cheque, money order, mail, phone, or any other format. We will be adding support for additional payment methods soon.
Can I delete my account?
No, we will do that for you after we get information from you 2 months in advance.
As a normal user, can I become a partner of e-nalanda?
Sure, you should possess some acceptable credentials in the subject and strictly follow our
guideline to become a partner.

What is Digital Rights Management?
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a technology that enables secure management of digital media. This technology issues licenses to your computer for each piece of protected content to which you are authorized, and thus, protects the content from unauthorized distribution and viewing.

Do I need to get a DRM license each time I wish to view a new content on the same computer?
Yes. When you click on a streaming media link for the first time, a DRM license for that particular content is distributed to your computer and is stored by Windows Media Player. You cannot move this license to another computer. As long as this license remains on your computer, and is not expired, you will not require another license to view the same content on that computer.
Any new content needs its own license and depending on the terms of your purchase, it may expire within hours or days. Further, the limited number of licenses issued for a specific piece of content will be used up if it is accessed from multiple computers.
What is the procedure to obtain a DRM license?
These are the two options to acquire any video content from e-nalanda. The difference between each option is as follows:
Buy
- Contents can be owned for a lifetime
- Contents do not have any expiry period
- You can download buy contents on four computers.
Rent
- Contents can be rented for a specific period of time
- Contents will expire after this rental period
- Contents can't be played or viewed once expired
- You can download rent contents on two computers.
Is it possible to save the streaming content on my PC?
No. We deliver our content as a streaming media file and it is not possible to save this file to your PC. Furthermore, we protect our content from unauthorized viewing and distribution by using Digital Rights Management (DRM). Hence, you need to accept "DRM licenses" to view our content on your PC.
What is the streaming bit rate?
The streaming bit rate will be approximately 200kbps.
What is the size of the video window?
The default video window size will be 320 x 240. However, you can also expand it to full screen mode, but this may degrade the image resolution and slow down the frame refresh rate.
Do contents get removed from the website?
Yes, they do get removed. Hence, if you have rented or bought any content and have still not downloaded it on to a maximum of four PC's, you will be intimated by a mail before the content is removed.
Is it possible to view e-nalanda content by using a dial-up Internet connection?
We do not recommend a dial-up connection as it offers only 56 kbps or a slower rate, whereas we have a video streaming bit rate of 200kbps. To enjoy our service uninterrupted, we recommend you a minimum Internet speed of 256kbps.
Can I use any other player other than Windows Media Player?
No, you cannot. All our videos work only on Windows Media Player version 9 or above.
What are the platforms on which I can access the video contents?
Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista/ 2007 are the platforms on which you can access the contents.
How do I get the license for the contents?
You do not have to do anything to obtain the license. The license comes pre-packaged with the contents. When any video content is played for the first time, Windows Media Player (version 9 or above) determines the validity of this content and obtains a license over the Internet, from our server.
Do I have to install any special software to view audio-visual contents from e-nalanda?
You only need to have Windows Media Player (version 9 or above) running on a Windows platform to view audio-visual contents from e-nalanda.
How many times and for how long can I watch any content?
If you have bought any content, you can own it for a lifetime and can view it unlimited number of times. However, if you have rented any content, you can view it as many times as you like but within a specific period, after which the validity expires. Subscribed content can be either bought or rented at a discounted price and will follow the above rules as the case may be.
How many computers can I use to watch the contents?
You can watch the contents on not more than four computers. Our license does not permit you to use any additional computer or any other media to access the contents.
